by: Kavoos Bybordi

Polyphonic ringtones seem to be portrayed as something to be associated with trendy teens wanting to show off their latest ringtone every time their mobile phone rings. Is this really the case though? Well I recently flicked through my favourite television magazine (which seems to be full of ringtone adverts these days) and came to the conclusion that this is an image ringtone websites would like to promote. Add in the loud and lively television adverts that seem to be nothing but dance tunes and the theory is made even stronger.

Well as a matter of fact when you look beneath the surface of the ringtone market you will actually find that there is a wide selection of polyphonic ringtones and monophonic ringtones for people of all ages. There are literally thousands of polyphonic ringtones catering for those of us who liked to dance along to Abba and The Rolling Stones. You name it, there’s a polyphonic ringtone for it. Who knows if you have children this could be an easy way to let them hear the music you used to dance to! Go on show them some of your best moves, you never know they might even be impressed by your robot dance skills.

So now you may be thinking ok I have a mobile phone, I want the latest! (or should I say oldest) polyphonic ringtone on my phone. Well before you decide on a polyphonic ringtone (one that sounds better than a monophonic ringtone) you should check that your mobile phone is compatible with polyphonic ringtones. Should you find your phone isn’t then don’t worry you can simply download a variety of monophonic ringtones which are pretty much standard on every mobile phone.

For those of us who are the stereotypical youth of today there is a massive selection of polyphonic, mp3 and monophonic ringtones to cater for your every need! In fact there’s even a chart section to keep you informed about what’s hot and what’s not. Artists range from the Black Eyed Peas to the Pussycat Dolls. Whatever your style is, R’n’B, Hip-hop or Pop you’re sure to find the tone for you.

Ringtones can even be a huge discussion point what does your ringtone say about you? Have you ever wondered what everyone else on the bus is thinking when your mobile phone goes off? Without trying to sound like a style guru, one who knows all about the art of mobile phone fashion – it is worth noting that the most inexperienced ringtone purchaser can listen to as many ringtones as they like before they even think about buying one. Every ringtone, polyphonic or other has an automatic preview option allowing you to experience that feeling which only happens when your mobile phone rings.

So next time your mobile phone rings please don’t feel comfortable with blurting out the default ringtone you’ve had on your mobile phone for the past 2 years, be creative, be fashionable personalise your mobile phone, personalise yourself, be individual and above all choose the right ringtone for YOU.

by: Lee Werrell

Mobile phone ringtones are like hot cakes for the youngsters, the market is huge, estimated world wide sales of $ 2.5 Billion per year. The cost of a mobile phone ringtone ranges from £1.99 to over £10. Most singers and performers provide rights for their melodies to be converted to ringtones versions. Survey shows that about 26% of mobile phone owners downloaded at least once a ringtone. Many people downloading more than one as you can customise and set the phone to play different ringtones for a specific caller.

For instance if your mum is calling the mobile phone will play a certain ringtone and another one for dad and for your girl friend a different one so you don’t have to guess who is calling you, it is totally personalized per caller.

There are four types of ringtones:

* Monophonic ringtones play a melody of a song one note at a time, with no harmonies.

* Polyphonic tones add harmonies to the song.

* Real-life or True Tone mobile phone ringtones include voices, quotes, or other strange, real sounds.

* Master tones are compressed clips of actual songs, as heard on the radio (not just their melodies or a simple harmonic version).

How do you download a ringtone?

There many web sites that offer a huge selections of lyrics and songs, themes from movies, hip-hop, pop, dance, singers, classics and you name it. One of the best and up to date in my opinion is http://www.zaxx.polyphonic-ringtone-ringtones.com/

The selection is per specific mobile phone model and the process is simple, fast and easy. You select a ringtone, choose your mobile phone maker and model, you see on the screen an SMS code, you type it in your mobile phone and send, then an SMS message is sent to you with your ringtone to be installed in two short steps process.

It is estimated that the mobile phone ringtone download party will continue to expand almost exponentially in the next few years with the advent of Java Games, mp3 tones and picture messaging, colour backgrounds and indivual logos etc, more mobile phones will become an MP3 players of real music and other cool features.

Millions of people everyday pay for ringtones to be sent directly to their mobile phone via SMS. Cheaply obtained for around £10, they can offer unlimited ringtones and multimedia content. For instance, if you have pictures of a recent party on your mobile, you can send them to your pc and display then as your wallpaper or screensaver. These are available from www.Zaxx.co.uk.

If you are looking to be that little bit more adventurous about your mobile phone ringtone, you could always download software which would allow you to create your own music then transfer it to your mobile phone. But remember, if the song isn’t the best, you may find yourself getting funny looks from the kids on the bus when someone calls you. But isn’t that what ringtones are all about, uniqueness? Many ringtone advertising schemes use uniqueness as their target, but everyone followed the craze of the notorious crazy frog. So what ringtone reflects your personality?
